Changes to Group-based supports

24 Oct 2023

Smaller groups catered to individuals

An essential aspect of the the changes is the emphasis on choice and control.

When support services for social and community participation are provided in large groups, it can be challenging to cater to the individual preferences and interests of all participants. Keeping groups smaller for example 1:5 ratio, increases the opportunity to cater to the individual needs and choices of each participant.

Providers who choose to do group-based supports, are to charge for the hourly rates and devide it by the amount of participants in the gorup. This means for a group of 5 participants and 1 facilitator, the charge would be the hourly rate divided by 5. Providers are also able to charge for capital costs which covers the rental and maintenance of a centre available for participants to attend. This does not cover temporary rented facilities.

Non-face-to-face supports can also be charged to participants based on ratios. This is for the time spent creating the activities and program that is to be used within the group.

Providers that choose to do larger group-based activities, please note, that you are not able to charge a higher hourly rate than that of the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. Be sure to read the full description before making changes.
